Description

Xu et al reported a model for predicting readmission for a patient with decompensated cirrhosis. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University and the Fifth People's Hospital of Chengdu in China.

Patient selection: hospital discharge of a patient with acute decompensated cirrhosis

Parameters:

(1) gastrointestinal bleeding

(2) serum sodium in mmol/L, from 110 to 150

(3) serum total bilirubin in µmol/L, from 0 to 600

(4) INR, from 0.5 to 5

points for serum sodium =

= 302.7273 - (2.01818 * (sodium))

points for serum total bilirubin =

= (0.16667 * (bilirubin))

points for INR =

= (14.7878 * (INR)) - 7.3939

score =

= SUM(points for all of the parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 292.36

• The higher the score the greater the risk of readmission.

percent of patients with 30-day readmission =

= (0.00009912 * ((score)^2)) + (0.01256 * (score)) - 2.5431
