Description

Sparreboom et al reported a nomogram for predicting anastomotic leak following resection of a rectal cancer. The authors are from multiple institutions in The Netherlands, Belgium and France.

Patient selection: status post resection of a rectal cancer

Outcome: anastomotic leak

Parameters measured on postoperative day 3:

(1) serum CRP in mg/L

(2) peritoneal (drain fluid) matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) in 10^5 pg/mL

points for CRP =

= 0.2 * (serum CRP))

points for MMP9 =

= 4.7857 * (MMP9)

total score =

= SUM(points for the 2 parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 167

value of X =

= (0.036197 * (score)) - 3.3237

Score

Risk of Anastomotic Leak

< 31

< 10%

31 to 153

1/(1+EXP((-1) * X))

> 153

> 90%

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve is 0.78.
