Mastracci et al evaluated factors affecting survival of patients undergoing endovascular repair of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from the procedure. The authors are from Cleveland Clinic.
Patient selection: abdominal aortic aneurysm from 50 to 95 years of age
The selected parameters are all known prior to surgery.
Parameters:
(1) age in years
(2) abdominal aortic diameter in mm (from 30 to 110 mm)
(3) history of chronic heart failure (CHF)
(4) peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
(5) COPD
(6) use of supplemental oxygen
(7) aspirin therapy (ASA)
points for age =
= (1.72 * (age in years)) - 86
points for abdominal aortic diameter in mm =
= (1.25 * (diameter)) - 37.5

= SUM(points for all 7 parameters)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 316
• The higher the score the lower the expected survival over time.
