Description

Gronchi et al developed a nomogram for predicting overall survival for a patient with a primary retroperitoneal soft tissue sarcoma. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from a novel or aggressive therapy. The authors are from Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan, University of California in Los Angeles, Baylor College of Medicine, University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Institute Gustave Roussy in Villejuif.

Patient selection: primary retroperitoneal soft tissue sarcoma following surgery

Exclusions: extraskeletal Ewing’s sarcoma or PNET, alveolar or embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, desmoplastic small round cell tumor, desmoid tumor, GIST

Outcome: 7 year overall survival

Parameters:

(1) age of the patient in years

(2) tumor diameter in cm

(3) FNCLCC grade (from 1 to 3)

(4) histologic subtype

(5) multifocality

(6) extent of resection

points if age from age 10 to 50 =

= (-0.366 * (age)) + 17.84

points if age from 50 to 90 =

= (0.01432 * ((age)^2)) – (1.063 * (age)) + 16.44

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: > 205

• The higher the score the worse the 7-year overall survival.
