Description

Eyer et al developed nomograms for predicting problems during alcohol withdrawal. One nomogram predicted the chances of seizures. The authors are from Medizinische Klinik of Technische Universitat Munchen.

Patient selection: alcohol withdrawal

Outcome: withdrawal seizures

Parameters:

(1) number of hours to climax (peak) of AWS score

(2) admission with withdrawal seizures

(3) structural brain lesion

points for time to AWS score climax =

= (0.5 * (hours))

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 168.6

• The greater the score the greater the risk of withdrawal seizures.
