Pape et al reported consensus criteria for polytrauma. The authors are from multiple institutions in Europe, the United States and Australia.
Patient selection: trauma
Criteria for polytrauma - both of the following:
(1) AIS score >= 3 in >= 2 body regions
(2) one or more of the following:
(2a) hypotension (systolic blood pressure <= 90 mm Hg)
(2b) Glasgow coma scale<= 8
(2c) acidosis (base excess <= -6)
(2d) coagulopathy (aPTT>= 40 seconds or INR >= 1.4)
(2e) age >= 70 years
Mahmood et al added an ISS > 15 points while Rau et al added an ISS >= 18.
