Description

Kaya et al identified risk factors for contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI). These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Ordu University and Erzurum Education and Research Hospital in Turkey.

Patient selection: PCI with contrast material

Risk factors for contrast-induced nephropathy:

(1) high neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR): > 6.35)

(2) advanced age

(3) diabetes mellitus

(4) reduced GFR

(5) high volume of contrast material (based on Table 3, use > 320 mL)

(6) low left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF)

(7) reduced postprocedural ST-segment resolution

The risk of nephropathy increases with the number of risk factors present.
