Description

Neurological involvement in Q fever is infrequent but can take many forms.


Patient selection: Q fever (infection with Coxiella burnetii)

 

Neurological disorders may include:

(1) meningitis

(2) meningoencephalitis

(3) septic emboli

(4) myelitis

(5) acute disseminated encephalomyelitis

(6) cranial neuritis, including optic neuritis

(7) peripheral neuropathy

 

Presentations may include:

(1) stroke-like

(2) pseudotumor cerebri

(3) akinetic-rigid syndrome

(4) cognitive impairment

(5) Guillain-Barre syndrome
