Description

Infants and young children with intussusception may present with neurologic findings.


 

Neurologic findings may include:

(1) lethargy or apathy

(2) altered or fluctuating level of consciousness

(3) hypotonia

(4) encephalopathy

(5) syncope

(6) hypersomnolence

(7) altered response to various stimuli

 

Later abdominal signs and symptoms such as vomiting and abdominal pain may develop.

 

Intussusception should be in the differential diagnosis of any infant or young child who presents with unexplained neurologic findings.
