Description

Neglect can occur if there is a cortical lesion in a susceptible area of the brain.


Neglect may be manifested as:

(1) reduced attention towards one side of the body

(2) reduced attention to a visual stimulus from one side

 

Lesions that can result in neglect can involve:

(1) the parietal lobe (neglect on opposite side of body)

(2) premotor cortex

(3) thalamus

 

Anosognosia refers to denial of a functional deficit on the affected side.
