The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has outlined the negative psychological impacts of workplace violence. The violence may range from bullying to abuse to physical injury.

Negative psychological effects of witnessing or experiencing trauma may include:

(1) short and long term psychological trauma including PTSD

(2) fear of returning to work

(3) a negative change in relationships with coworkers and family members

(4) negative self-image (guilt, incompetence, being powerless)

(5) fear of criticism, negative reviews or retaliation by supervisors or managers

It is important that workers exposed to workplace violence receive appropriate counseling that is free of charge.
