Myopericarditis refers to pericarditis with minor myocardial involvement.
Clinical and laboratory features:
(1) The patient meets the criteria for acute pericarditis.
(2) Biomarkers of myocardial injury (troponin, CK-MB, other) are elevated.
(3) Absence of focal or diffuse impairment of left ventricular function on echocardiography or cardiac MRI.
Causes:
(1) infection (viral, other)
(2) autoimmune disease
(3) inflammatory bowel disease
(4) radiation
(5) drug-induced
The term perimyocarditis is used if the myocardial involvement is significant and the pericarditis minor. Making the diagnosis of perimyocarditis may require an endomyocardial biopsy.
Differential diagnosis:
(1) acute coronary syndrome
