Description

Rarely a person with mushroom poisoning may show evidence of myocarditis.

Pathogenesis: many of the reports are associated with rhabdomyolysis

Cardiac findings:

(1) left ventricular dysfunction

(2) ECG showing changes consistent with NSTEMI, STEMI or hyperkalemia

(3) cardiogenic shock

(4) myocarditis

Many patients showing myocardial injury have multi-organ damage which can contribute to shock.

The myocardial involvement is usually reversible once recovered from the poisoning.
