Description

Martinez et al report a clinical prediction rule for evaluating a patient for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB). The authors are from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (Lima), University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham VA Medical Center and the Peruvian Tuberculosis Program.


Patient selection: Peruvian with AFB in smear, failed therapy or had early relapse

 

Parameters:

(1) history of tuberculosis with failed therapy or early relapse (within 12 months)

(2) multidrug-resistant tuberculosis contact in family

(3) abnormal lung exam

(4) cavitary lesion on chest imaging studies
