Description

Morton's toe is a cause of foot pain associated with shortening of the first metatarsal.

Clinical features of Morton's toe:

(1) The patient complains of pain in the first metatarsophalangeal joint while walking.

(2) The tip of the second toe is at the same level or beyond the tip of the first toe (normally the tip of the first toe protrudes beyond the other toes).

(3) An X-ray of the foot shows that the first metatarsal is shorter than normal.

(4) The arch of the foot is often low.

(5) Reducing the pressure on the metatarsophalangeal joint may help to reduce pain and improve gait.
