Description

Chen et al reported the Mortality Risk Model for Pediatric Sepsis (MRMFPS) for predicting the risk of mortality for a pediatric patient with sepsis. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from Hunan Children's Hospital, Central South University Changsha and Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control in China.

Patient selection: pediatric patient with sepsis (ages 1 month to 14 years)

Outcome: mortality

Parameters collected during the first 24 hours after admission:

(1) brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) in pmol/L

(2) serum albumin in g/L

(3) serum total bilirubin in µmol/L

(4) plasma D-dimer (positive or negative)

(5) blood lactate concentration in mmol/L

(6) mechanical ventilation during the first 24 hours
