Chronic biting or chewing of tissue of the oral cavity can result in lesions termed morsicatio (from the Latin morsus = "to bite". It is classified as a chronic oral frictional keratosis.
Features:
(1) history of chronic biting of the target tissue
(2) white lesion of target tissue
(3) chronic irritation with epithelial hyperplasia and parakeratosis
(4) exclusion of other causes of hyperkeratosis and of infection (fungal, viral, bacterial)
