A colorectal carcinoma can be classified based on its pattern of microsatellite instability (MSI) and CpG Island Methylator phenotype (CIMP).


 

Parameters:

(1) microsatellite instability (MSI): MSI-H, MSI-L, MSS

(2) CpG island methylator phenotype (CIMP): CIMP-H, CIMP-L, CIMP-0

Groups 4, 5 and 6 can be combined into a single group lacking MSI-H and/or CIMP-H. This would represent 75 to 80% of colorectal carcinomas.
