A skier who skis a mogul may suffer soft tissue injury with bruising of the palm.
Mogul is derived from "mugel" (German for mound or hillock).
Moguls are bumps or small mounds of snow that may be local or widespread on a ski slope. They may be artificially made for a specific downhill race.
Risk factors:
(1) poor padding of the glove
(2) bleeding disorder
(3) repeated or prolonged skiing over moguls
Clinical features:
(1) bruising of the palm, especially of the hypothenar eminence
(2) painful
Differential diagnosis:
(1) skier's thumb
(2) fracture of a metacarpal bone
