Description

Xu et al reported a modified early obstetrical early warning score for evaluating a pregnant woman with an acute condition. The authors are from Sichuan University in Chengdu, China.

Patient selection: pregnant woman

Parameters:

(1) temperature in °C

(2) respiratory rate in breaths per minute

(3) SpO2 in percent

(4) oxygen therapy

(5) heart rate in beats per minute

(6) systolic blood pressure in mm Hg

(7) diastolic blood pressure in mm Hg

(8) consciousness level

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 24

• Women with serious obstetrical complications had a mean MOEWS of 8 (range 6 to 10).

• A MOEWS score >= 5 OR a single parameter with score of 3 were indications for ICU admission.

MOEWS

Management

<= 2

continue monitoring

3 or 4

repeat observations

>= 5

admit to ICU

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve is 0.92.
