Description

Horio et al reported modifications of the MDRD and CKD-EPI equations for estimating glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in Japanese adults. The authors are from Osake University, Nagoya University and Fukushima Medical University.

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) serum creatinine in mg/dL

eGFR modified MDRD 4 variable estimate in mL per min per 1.73 sq m =

= 0.808 * 175 * ((serum creatinine)^(-1.154)) * ((age)^(-0.203)) * (sex factor)

where:

• Sex factor is 1 for male and 0.742 for female.

eGFR modified CKD-EPI for a male in mL per min per 1.73 sq m =

= 0.813 * 141 * (minimum((creatinine)/0.9,1)^(-0.411)) * (maximum((creatinine)/0.9,1)^(-1.209)) * (0.993 ^(age)) * (race factor)

eGFR modified CKD-EPI for a female in mL per min per 1.73 sq m =

= 0.813 * 141 * (minimum((creatinine)/0.7,1)^(-0.329)) * (maximum((creatinine)/0.7,1)^(-1.209)) * (0.993 ^(age)) * 1.018 * (race factor)

where:

• Race factor is 1.159 if black, else 1. This seems odd to include in a Japanese model.

The modified CKD=EPI equation was more accurate and so is preferred.
