Modified Frailty Index (mFI-5) of Huq et al for a Patient with a Brain Tumor

Huq et al reported a modified frailty score for evaluating a patient with a brain tumor. The authors are from Johns Hopkins University.

Patient selection: brain tumor (meningiomas, pituitary tumors, gliomas, vestibular schwannomas, metastases)

Parameters:

(1) hypertension

(2) congestive heart failure (CHF)

(3) chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

(4) diabetes mellitus

(5) functional impairment

index =

= SUM(points for all 5 parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 5

• The higher the score the greater length of stay, number of complications and healthcare charges.
