Zhou et al reported a modification of the Ocular Trauma Scale (OTS) for evaluation of open globe injuries. The authors are from the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Patient selection: open globe injury
Differences from the OTS - much is the same except for:
(1) addition of parameter for orbital fracture
(2) differences in table predicting outcomes for each category
Parameters:
(1) injuries and complications
(1a) rupture of the globe
(1b) afferent pupillary defect
(1c) endophthalmitis
(1d) retinal detachment
(1e) perforating injury
(2) initial best corrected visual acuity (BCVA)
(3) orbital fractures

Interpretation:
• minimum score: -15
• maximum score: 119
• The higher the score the better.
