Description

Bile leakage is a serious complication of partial hepatectomy for alveolar echinococcosis. Yang et al reported a simple score for identifying a patient at increased risk for this complication. The authors are from Sichuan University and West China Hospital in Chengdu, China.

HXBL = Huaxi Hospital and bile leakage

Patient selection: hepatic alveolar echinococcosis

Parameters:

(1) preoperative serum direct bilirubin in µmol/L

(2) preoperative serum LDH in U/L

(3) lesion diameter in cm

(4) surface area of hepatectomy
