Parekattil et al developed a model for helping to determine if vasoepididymostomy will be required for vasectomy reversal. The authors are from the Cleveland Clinic.
Parameters:
(1) age in years
(2) number of years since vasectomy operation
prediction score =
= (0.31 * (age in years)) + (0.94 * (number of years since vasectomy))
Interpretation:
• minimum score: around 5.6
• maximum score: > 70
• The higher the score the more likely a vasoepididymostomy will be required.
Predictive Score
Therapeutic Option
< 20
bilateral vasovasotomy
>= 20
unilateral or bilateral vasoepididymostomy
Performance:
• The sensitivity is 100% and specificity 59%.
• The area under the ROC curve is 0.8.
