Description

Nishio et al developed a model for predicting posthepatectomy liver failure (PHLF)based on liver stiffness. The authors are from Kyoto University in Japan.

Patient selection: post-partial hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma

Outcome: ISGLS posthepatic failure grade B or C

Parameters:

(1) Vs in m/s, measured using acoustic radio force impulse (ARFI)

(2) preoperative liver volume in mL

(3) volume of resected liver in mL

rem = hepatic remnant =

= ((preoperative liver volume) - (volume of resection liver)) / (preoperative liver volume)

index (L) =

= (1.25 * (Vs)) - (3.97 * (rem))

probability of PHLF grade greater than or equal to grade B =

= 1 / (1 + EXP((-1) * (L - 1.65))

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve is 0.80.
