Description

Morris et al developed a model for predicting biologically available testosterone in men. The authors are from the University of Sheffield.

Parameters:

(1) total testosterone in nmol/L

(2) sex hormone binding globulin in nmol/L

X =

= (0.955 * LN(total testosterone)) – (0.228 * LN(sex hormone binding globulin)) – 0.266

biologically available testosterone in nmol/L =

= EXP(X)

Interpretation:

The total testosterone was considered the best marker of hypogonadism for men, with calculation of bioavailable testosterone useful when the values are borderline.
