Description

Miller et al developed a model for predicting acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in an adult after blunt trauma. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from the University of Tennessee and Wake Forest University.

Patient selection: blunt trauma

Parameters:

(1) Injury Severity Score (ISS)

(2) pulmonary contusion

(3) systolic blood pressure on admission

(4) 24 hour blood transfusion in units of red blood cells

(5) age in years
