Description

Leder et al developed an equation for predicting glomerular filtration rate in pediatric patients based on plasma creatinine. The authors are from Hopital des Infants, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Purpan and Universite Paul-Sabatier in Toulouse, France.

Patient selection: pediatric, age range 0.8 to 18 years (development) and 0.9 to 21 years (validation set)

Parameters:

(1) body weight in kilograms

(2) length in cm

(3) plasma creatinine in µmol/L

estimated GFR in mL per minute =

= ((56.7 * (body weight)) + (0.142 * ((length)^2))) / (plasma creatinine)

where:

• The equation gives units of mL per minute but the figures display mL per min per 1.73 square meter. The results of the equation are close to adult values suggesting that there is BSA adjustment.
