Description

Heng et al used the revised Baux score and updated Charlson comorbidity index to predict mortality in burn patients. The authors are from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Imperial College London.

Patient selection: total burn surface area >= 15% and admitted to ICU

Parameters:

(1) revised Baux score of Osler et al (from 0 to 217)

(2) updated Charlson comorbidity index of Quan et al (from 0 to 24)

X =

= (0.08 * (revised Baux score)) + (0.436 * (updated Charlson)) - 8.824

probability of death =

= 1/(1+EXP((-1) * X))

Performance:

The area under the ROC curve was 0.92.
