Burtscher developed a model for predicting survival after being buried in an avalanche based on analysis of avalanche data in Austria. The author is from the Austrian Society of Mountain Medicine.

(2) duration of burial in minutes

An important conclusion was that any maneuver to keep the person on the surface increases the chance for survival.
