Description

Microsleeps are episodes of sleep of very short duration


Definition: an episode of sleep lasting less than 30 seconds. These are typically associated with tiredness.

 

Occurrence:

(1) obstructive sleep apnea

(2) Parkinson's disease

(3) opioid overdose

(4) sleep deprivation

(5) depression

(6) medications

(7) morbid obesity

 

Impact:

(1) impaired alertness for driving or operating machine

(2) difficulty processing information
