Description

Matos et al used handgrip strength at hospital admission to screen an adult for risk of malnutrition. Malnutrition is associated with a number of adverse outcomes. The authors are from University of Porto, Hospital Geral de Santo Antonio and Hospital Pedro Hispano.

Handgrip strength

(1) tends to be lower in females than males

(2) declines with age, especially if >= 65 years

(3) is affected by malnutrition
