For many developing countries resources for monitoring HIV disease are limited. Chen et al developed an algorithm for using the complete blood cell (CBC) count to identify an HIV-positive patient who probably has a CD4 cell count <= 200 per µL. The authors are from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Parameters:
(1) absolute lymphocyte count per µL
(2) hemoglobin in g/dL
(3) platelet count per µL
