Description

Sha et al reported a metabolic risk score (MRS) for evaluating the patient's metabolic status. It has been used to assess the relationship between the metabolic syndrome and certain cancers. The authors are from Fujian Medical University, Fujian Cancer Hospital, and China-Japan Friendship Hospital.

Patient selection: BMI 17.15 to 29.05 kg per sq m

Parameters (scored based on quintiles):

(1) body mass index in kg per sq m, from 17.15 to 29.05

(2) pulse pressure in mm Hg (systolic minus diastolic blood pressure), from 25 to 80

(3) fasting blood glucose in mmol/L, from 3.76 to 13.69

(4) serum triglyceride in mmol/L, from 0.41 to 3.56

(5) serum HDL-cholesterol in mmol/L, from 0.47 to 2.04

score =

= SUM(points for all of the parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: -9

• maximum score: 17

• The higher the score the greater the risk for metabolic syndrome.
