Description

The Metabolic Exercise Cardiac Kidney Indexes (MECKI) score can be used to evaluate a patient with heart failure who is undergoing exercise testing. The MECKI score research group are from multiple institutions in Italy.

Patient selection: chronic heart failure

Parameters:

(1) VO2 peak as percent of predicted

(2) slope of VE/VCO2 (VE = ventilation; VCO2 = carbon dioxide consumptions)

(3) hemoglobin in g/dL

(4) serum sodium in mmol/L

(5) left ventricular ejection fraction in percent

(6) GFR by MDRD equation in mL per minute

MECKI =

= 10.3464 – (0.0262 * (VO2peak)) + (0.0472 * (slope VE/VCO2)) – (0.1086 * (hemoglobin)) – (0.0615 * (serum sodium)) – (0.0699 * (left ventricular ejection fraction)) – (0.0136 * (GFR))

Interpretation:

• The lower the MECKI the better the prognosis.
