Description

Parameters:

(1) eGFR in mL per min

(2) number of drugs being taken

(3) number of drugs causing low risk of harm, up to 3

(4) number of drugs causing medium risk of harm, up to 8

(5)  number of drugs causing high risk harm, up to 7

(6) number of low or medium risk drug interactions, up to 12

(7) number of high-risk drug interactions, up to 2

where:

• The sum of low, medium and high-risk drugs should not exceed the total number of drugs.

total score =

= SUM(points for all of the parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: dependent on number and types of drugs, probably around 37

• A cut-off of > 15 has the highest Youden index (sensitivity 0.52, specificity 0.81).

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve is 0.70 according to Hoi et al. Better performance is seen in other populations.
