Description

Myers et al reported the MELD-Albumn score for evaluating a patient prior to liver transplant. This can help to predict mortality for a patient on the waiting list for liver transplant. The authors are from the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada.

Patient selection: candidate for liver transplant

Parameters:

(1) MELD score

(2) serum albumin in g/dL (allowed range 1.0 to 4.0)

MELD-albumin score =

= (MELD) + (6.179 * (4 - (albumin)) - (0.163 * (MELD) * (4 - (albumin)))

Interpretation:

• The higher the MELD-albumin score the greater the risk for the patient on a liver transplant waiting list.
