Description

Schoder et al reported the Mediterranean Diet Adherence Screener (MEDAS) to evaluate a person's adherence to the Mediterranean diet. The authors are from multiple institutions in Spain.


Parameters:

(1) tablespoons of olive oil per day

(2) servings of vegetables per day (200 g; garnish or side dish = half serving)

(3) pieces of fruit per day

(4) servings of red meat, hamburger or sausage per day (100-150 g)

(5) servings of animal fat (butter, cream, margarine) per day

(6) mL of carbonated and/or sugar-sweetened beverages per day

(7) servings of red wine per week (100 mL, 1 cup)

(8) servings of pulses per week (150 g)

(9) servings of fish or seafood per week (100-150 g fish, 200 g seafood)

(10) commercial pastries (including cookies or cakes, not homemade) per week

(11) servings of nuts per week (30 g)

(12) servings per week of dish with a traditional sauce (tomatoes, garlic, onions, leeks sauteed in olive oil) with rice, pasta, boiled vegetables, etc

(13) use of olive oil as principal source of fat

(14) preference in kind of meat consumed
