A medial canthus degloving injury involves trauma to the soft tissues of the naso-orbito-ethmoid (noe) complex.
Precipitating trauma may include:
(1) vehicular, bicycle or motorcycle accident
(2) animal attack
The patient presents with a laceration that extends from the eyebrow or forehead across the medial canthus.
Clinical triad:
(1) traumatic telecanthus
(2) ptosis
(3) injury to the lacrimal outflow (canalicular) tract
Reconstruction involves a series of staged procedures that target specific defects.
