The McGill Grading System for athletic head injury emphasizes the milder forms of injury which might be missed by other grading systems. It was developed at McGill University in Montreal.
loss of consciousness or post-traumatic amnesia
confusion for only a few seconds; no postconcussion symptoms
confusion AND postconcussion symptoms resolved <= 15 minutes
confusion OR postconcussion symptoms lasting > 15 minutes
amnesia < 30 minutes OR loss of consciousness < 5 minutes
amnesia >= 30 minutes AND loss of consciousness >= 5 minutes
• Post-concussion symptoms (Maddocks, page 33) include headache, dizziness, blurred or double vision, and nausea.
