Scrutinio et al reported models for predicting functional outcomes after stroke rehabilitation. One model predicts motor functional independence and a second predicts ability to perform activities of daily living. The authors are from IstitutiClinicaScientifici Maugeri-SPA and other institutions in Italy.
Patient selection: stroke patient after stroke rehabilitation
Outcome: probability of a FIS >= 5 (no more than supervision of activities of daily living)
Parameters:
(1) age in years
(2) sex
(3) time since stroke occurrence to rehabilitation admission in days
(4) motor-FIM score, from 13 to 91
(5) cognitive FIM score, from 5 to 35
Parameter
Points
age in years
-0.046 * (years)
time since stroke
-0.038 * (time)
sex
0.654 if male, else 0
motor FIM score
0.146 * (score)
cognitive FIM score
0.044 * (score)
value of X =
= SUM(points for all of the parameters) - 3.064
probability of FIS >= 5 =
= 1 / (1 + EXP((-1) * X))
