Binge eating disorder may be associated with massive gastric dilatation.
Clinical features:
(1) history of eating disorder
(2) recent binge eating episode
(3) massive distention of the stomach
Complications:
(1) necrosis with or without rupture
(2) abdominal compartment syndrome
If the gastric distention cannot be reduced by vomiting or gastric tube then surgery may become necessary.
Differential diagnosis: acute gastric dilatation from other cause (diabetes, metastatic cancer, acute pancreatitis, etc)
