Description

Galicia et al developed a risk score for identifying a cocaine user in the Emergency Department (ED) who is likely to revisit an ED. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from an intervention. The authors are from the Multicenter Assessment of the Revisit Risk in the Emergency Department (MARRIED) Research Group in Spain.

Patient selection: cocaine user in the Emergency Department

Outcome: revisit to the ED

Parameters:

(1) previous history of visit to the ED for drug consumption

(2) previous history of visit to the ED for alcohol intake

(3) need for emergency psychiatric evaluation during current ED visit

(4) time of ED visit during a weekday (from Monday 08:00 to Friday 16:00)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 400

• The higher the score the greater the risk of detecting the chances of an ED revisit.
