Manual raking of autumn leaves can result in a number of injuries.
Injuries associated with manual leaf raking:
(1) muscle overuse
(2) tendon strains
(3) low back pain
(4) hand blisters
(5) splinters
(6) falls
(7) foot injury
(8) eye injury
(9) ischemic heart disease
Ways to reduce injury:
(1) stretch before and after raking
(2) avoid overexertion and take breaks
(3) use a rake of appropriate length and weight
(4) avoid excessive twisting and lifting
(5) wear gloves
(6) wear closed shoes with soles that reduce slipping
(7) wear suitiable eye protection
