Description

Cooper et al developed a clinical tool for evaluating a patient after self-harm. This can help identify a patient who is at risk for recidivism. The authors are from Manchester Royal Infirmary in Manchester, England.


 

Patient selection: ED patient who has survived a recent attempt at self-harm

 

Method: recursive partitioning

 

Evaluation:

(1) previous history of self-harm

(2) previous history of psychiatric treatment

(3) self-harm attempt was an overdose with a benzodiazepine

(4) currently receiving psychiatric treatment
