A patient with hemodialysis-associated pseudoporphyria (bullous dermatosis of hemodialysis) can be successfully managed.
Primary interventions:
(1) Change from low-flux to high-flux membrane hemodialysis.
(2) Administer oral N-acetylcysteine.
Adjunctive interventions:
(1) Avoid exposure to intense light sources.
(2) Discontinue or minimize use of drugs associated with pseudoporphyria.
Renal transplant would be expected to correct the disorder.
