Wall et al reported the Malawi Adult Meningitis Score (MAMS) for evaluating bacterial meningitis in Malawi (sub-Saharan Africa). This region is affected by limited resources and a high rate of HIV. The authors are from multiple institutions in Malawi, England, and Thailand.

(3) pulse in beats per minute from 50 to 180

(4) LOG10 of white blood cells in the CSF per microliter

(5) CSF culture
