Description

A magnum gun is designed to be more powerful than a standard gun of the same caliber.


 

A magnum gun may be a handgun or rifle.

 

Features of a magnum gun:

(1) more propellant (gunpowder)

(2) longer shell

(3) more rugged frame to handle the extra discharge pressure

(4) heavier gun weight

(5) higher muzzle velocity and significantly greater kinetic energy

(6) greater report and flame

(7) greater "kick"

 

Other usage of term magnum:

(1) a magnum shotgun shell may contain additional pellets.
