The Lusaka equation can be used to estimate the body weight of a pediatric patient in a developing country. The equation was derived at the University of Zambia in Lusaka, Zambia.
Patient selection: pediatric patient <= 14 years
Parameters:
(1) age of the patient in months if under 1 year of age
(2) age of the patient in years if over 1 year of age
Age
Estimated Weight in Kilograms
< 1 year
((age in months) / 2) + 3.5
> 1 year
(2 * (age in years)) + 7
Performance:
• Tendency to underestimate weight (mean bias -0.5 kg)
